The Faculty of Education (FKIP) at Parahyangan Catholic University (UNPAR) was established through the merger of two higher education institutions: STKIP Surya and Parahyangan Catholic University itself. STKIP Surya, founded in 2009 by Prof. Yohanes Surya, Ph.D., aimed to produce high-quality teachers, particularly in Physics Education, Mathematics Education, Chemical Education, and Informatics and Computer Engineering Education. UNPAR, on the other hand, was founded on January 17, 1955, by Mgr. Petrus Marinus Arntz, OSC, and Mgr. Nicolaus Johannes Cornelis Geise, OFM.
On September 3, 2024, STKIP Surya officially merged into UNPAR. This merger was formalized by the Decree of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 566/E/O/2024. This consolidation is part of a broader strategy to strengthen teacher education and pedagogical studies in Indonesia, with the goal of enhancing academic capacity and producing more exceptional educators. The official launch of FKIP UNPAR took place in December 2024, marking UNPAR’s expanded commitment to contributing to education and human resource development.
The formation of FKIP aligns with UNPAR’s vision of becoming a humanum academic community that develops local potential to a global level. With the establishment of FKIP, UNPAR is dedicated to improving the quality of teacher education to address the evolving challenges and needs of the Indonesian educational landscape. Through this integration, FKIP UNPAR is expected to produce competent and dedicated graduates in the field of education, who can contribute positively to the wider community. As an integral part of UNPAR, FKIP aims to be an innovative educational hub, fostering high-quality and principled educators, and contributing to the advancement of education in Indonesia.
